Sustainability Education for Staff

All district staff, from custodians, bus drivers, office and kitchen personnel to administrators and teachers, need to understand the concepts of sustainability and the influence they have to influence the sustainability effort within the scope of their job. This knowledge enables them to support student education for sustainability, and to optimize their contribution to the sustainability journey. The same is true for school board members.

The school and district can support this need by including it in professional development and in-service training opportunities. Each staff person can look for and ask for opportunities within their district and community and at conferences they regularly attend.

The “Take Action, Stage 1” section lists some avenues for learning.

The “Sustainability Resource page” lists some organizations that offer opportunities.

Topic-specific opportunities can be found in the respective resource pages.

The Education – Content and Education – Delivery pages include teacher professional development information related to curriculum.
