Parents and Community Members
As a parent, you can impact the sustainability of your children’s school and even the school district. Your voice is an important one!
While it may be more difficult to find a starting point, interested community members without children in school can also help with some of the same things!
If you’d like to get involved, take some time to learn about current practices, ask questions, and volunteer in school-supported sustainability efforts. It also helps to keep in mind that school personnel are doing the best they can within the existing system’s established practices and current knowledge. Progress can be achieved by respecting and supporting their efforts and experience.
There are a number of ways you might choose to get involved. You might even find that you can incorporate sustainability into your current volunteer efforts. It depends on your interests, availability, experience, and comfort level. A number of suggestions and ideas are outlined in the “What Parents Can Do” section.
